3D Hubs Forum

Everyday we make changes and improvements to 3D Hubs website. If you have ideas for improvements or feature requests, this is the place to drop them. Get other people to vote up your ideas to accelerate the focus we give to it.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Build plate size as an option

When defining your hub printers, it would be good it we could enter a max build plate size, ie 150mm x 150mm x120mm.
3d hubs could then reject prints that are too big. I hate having to reject orders because customers are not advised of sizes available.

    • Add a "Vacation" setting or "Temporarily offline"

If a hub owner is going on vacation or to a conference for a week or two it would be nice to have a vacation mode or a temporarily offline mode. There could be one toggle switch with a corresponding date field that takes the hub printers offline but still allows the hub to show in search results. The difference being that it has a message stating something to the effect of "This hub is temporarily offline and will resume accepting orders on (date)". This way existing customers know you're still around, and, potential new customers may see still view…

      • Improved 3D printing trends

I was very disapointed that the part about the color distribution is no longer a part of the quarterly trending report. It was the only information that I could use for planning how to stock my hub to meet customer demand. What I would like is for that part to come back and also getting information about distribution of material, layer height, printing technique and build volume. If it would be possible to make the information available on a local level (per country/region) it would be extremly helpful and allow for the hubs to understand the customer demand.

        • 3DHubs should NOT exclude hubs where the model can fit in diagonale

A friend of mine asked me to print something for him and I uploaded his model to 3DHubs to get an estimate/price from my own Hub, but then I figured out that my Hub wasn't listed. Even if I already checked that the object perfectly fits on my build plate in diagonale with a 10mm raft using Cura.

I would like 3DHubs to change the way they select Hubs based on build plate width and height only (based on their printers database)

Some objects can fit on the build plate in diagonale and can be perfectly printed. This is causing…

          • Allow a description for materials

I think it'd be useful if Hubs were able to add their own descriptive text to a material entry on their printer(s), especially where materials are lesser known or have particular properties useful for certain models.

            • Allow hub to split up orders

If customer add a lot of parts and then ask for colors it could be nice to be able to split up the order and set color and infill

infill is always 20% and in some cases the customer wants less or more

this creates the need to calculate stuff instead of just changing the infill %

Since we acquired Printivate last year we’re starting to work on more advanced pricing features. Custom infill is pretty high on the list for improving FDM quoting flexibility.

              • Don't let users change accepted orders!

It's annoying if you check an Order for it's printability.
Make all adjustments to the project, accept the Order and when the customer pays the Order you see, that he added some new files you haven't ever seen.

You shouldn't totaly disable the function to the user, but as soon as the Hub has accepted the order, the user must ask for permission to change files again.

Or you let the user make changes, but it doesn't get updated until the Hub validates it.

                • Make a link to previous orders by the same customer.

Often I have the same customer returning. It would be nice to be able to automatically find his or her previous orders. Very often they refer to a previous fact, and then it is tiresome to look thru all orders or ask the customer what they meant.

                  • Re-newing "2. Choose a material to print in" section

Hello 3D-Hub´s team, first of all thanks to your work - i enjoy it beeing here. Here is my approach:

There are 12 different material options + 1 search option so far:

                    1. general purpose plastics
                    2. resin
                    3. etc.

I´am wondering about this: 6 out of 12 material domains are dedicated to Stratasys products only.

The domains i have in mind are:

                    rigid opaque plastics
                    rubber like plastics
                    transparent plastics
                    simulated poly
                    simulated ABS

                    Of course, all in HD!

Ive made testprints with different materials and systems.
In fact, a desktop system can beat out stratasys tango, vero white…

                    • Option for different pricing for printing with PVA supports on UM3

The UM3 has the option to print supports in PVA which desolves in water. This makes complex prints possible of course, but this material is very expensive, so I would like to create seperate pricing for PLA with PLA supports and PLA with PVA supports. Currently that is not possible. I can't even 'work around' by adding PLA with PVA supports as a material.
It would be great also, if a small explanation could be given per material to let people know the difference.
For the future it would obviously be great if supports could be calculated by 3DHubs.

they deisgner can put parameters on items, such as if the designer this there part should only be printed in SLS graphite make that the only option etc or only avliable in red?

                            • Make the user more aware that higher microns does not mean higher quality.

All too often I have customers order at 200 or 300 microns only to leave me a poor review after they thought that the higher the micron the number the higher quality resolution. I have to check with anyone that orders at 300 or 200 now whether they understand that they're ordering a medium to low quality print. But it would be much easier of 3D Hubs made the customers (which most are new to 3D Printing) aware that the higher the micron number does not mean higher quality, this could be rectified by a confirmation by the customer before…

Pretty simple really, distance isn't that useful given that postage doesn't vary that much. But usually i have to scroll through 5 pages to find those hub offering the most competive prices.

                                    • Associate filament princing to multiple printers, and multiple brands

I have 4 printers. Lets say I print both ABS and PLA in red, black and white, at the same price for the same resolution. I also print Nylon, but only on two of them. I also offer two resolutions: 100 and 200 microns.

If I would create my 4 printers today, I would need to:
                                      0. Create my first printer;
                                      1. Create pricing for PLA, 3 colors, 100 microns
                                      2. Add pricing for 200 microns
                                      3. Copy this princing and rename it to ABS;
                                      4. Create my next printer;
                                      5. Redo steps 1 to 3 for that second printer; …

The flow of adding materials and pricing to your hub is indeed quite complicated. We’re looking at ways to simplify this proces, but is not on top of the list to implement at this point in time.

                                      • Optional Payment for the hub after a month

It would be better for hubs to have the option to select whether they want to get paid for each order or have a montly payment (up to the orders they had each month). That's because every time 3dhubs make the payment there is a fee from the hub's bank for the transaction. For example in Greece this is 3€ and it is not up to the amount, it is a fixed fee...so it is better to make one transaction each month rather than 4-5 whatever is the number of orders each month.

                                        • The Auto-Rotate module for FDM 3D Printing "Tweaker"

The efficiency of FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) 3D printing is influenced by the orientation in which the printed object is positioned on the printing platform. The Tweaker is an open source python module which finds an optimal orientation for an object on a 3D printer's printing platform. The Tweaker can be regarded as an auto-rotate function, invocable from software as well as from a web-service to facilitate the workflow in a cloud-based manufacturing scenario as 3D Hubs is.

                                          Test it here: https://github.com/ChristophSchranz/Tweaker-3
