Everyday we make changes and improvements to 3D Hubs website. If you have ideas for improvements or feature requests, this is the place to drop them. Get other people to vote up your ideas to accelerate the focus we give to it.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. URLs that open image lightboxes on hub page (better way to link to hub images)

At the moment it's hard to "showcase" models posted to hubs because you can only either link to the hub's main page or directly to an image.

I think it would be good to be able to generate URLs that go to the hub's main page but automatically pop an image up in the lightbox so you can showcase an individual image while also having the hub page open. Maybe something like https://www.3dhubs.com/london/hubs/example?show=362342

it would be great to see a cataloger option to be added to your profile so clients can choose from a range of items that you pick to stock

        • Separate your stickers so I can give them to my customers

Customer orders a print. I want to ship it along with "3d hubs - marginally clever" sticker you were so nice to send me. unfortunately, the stickers are 4 to a sheet and have no gap between them, so i can't even cut them into separate pieces.

Also, will you be sending more when I get to 8 orders and run out?

          Thanks!

Hey Dan, thanks for this feedback its great to hear you use these stickers to send to your customers. We’ll probably add a re-order option to the Hub dashboard, when we do so we’ll try to make the stickers easier to separate too. I know that at the moment they are made on big sheets by the hundreds at once to keep the price down, so it might be challenging to do.

We’ll give you an update in a while when get to it. In the meanwhile you can send rob@3dhubs.com a message if you run out – he might be able to wiggle something for you ;-)

We’ve made the first step by calculating 100% infill for all non FDM technologies. The next iteration will allow more flexibility than the standard 20% we use now.

We’re aware that our pricing doesn’t work for each and every printer operator. We recently took the first step to improve this by calculating 100% infill for all non FDM technologies.

The next iteration will allow more flexibility than the standard 20% we use now. Using bounding box in your calculation could be one of the options. This will take a couple months to come out though, until then you can use the extra services to add a Material charge to an order.

                • Search by printing volume

your search tool is good. However, if customer want to print in big size, it's difficult for them to find a hub provide that service.

We’ll see if we can add a filter to the advanced options that allows people to search by build volume. Our search does filter printers that are too small automatically but this often results in no printers showing up.

                  • Add an option to print using Cura's Black Magic Option

Things like vases are really expensive since the original file is exported solid and they take up a large volume. In reality, though, they are printed using the black magic option which ignores that the STL is solid and instead does a single perimeter shell and is really quite easy to print. I think most slicing engines have this option in some form or another and customers should be able to choose this for vases or cups so that they aren't charged over $100 for a vase that only costs a dollar in filament to make.

                      Hey Karlin,
Thanks a lot for sharing this idea, it makes a lot of sense. We’ve just released the option for Hubs to change the volume of the print to whatever the slicer indicates, so it should already be easier to update the order to show the right price. However we’ll look into having different printing profiles available to experts like yourself in the future.

                      Thanks,
                      Brian

                      • Hubs offering material sample orders

Would there be a way to offer predefined orders of material samples offered by the Hubs?

This way we could offer an easy way to people to test out new materials by letting the client what materials to get.

                        like this: https://www.shapeways.com/material_sample_kits

                        • Option to automatically add taxes to order total

I'd love to see taxes automatically calculated and added to the order total. So we're talking GST or VAT or whatever other various taxes are imposed by various government institutions.

For example, here in Australia my hub is run under our business, evok3d.com.au and by law we have to charge 10% GST. HOwever, other hubs in Australia may not if they are not a business registered for GST because they turn over less than $50,000 per year.

There are of course other regions in the world that have similar taxes and others that do not.

                          I see the simplest way…

                              • Allow Hub to create manual orders

When working with some clients (particularly those that're less experienced in 3D) it'd be great if the hub could manually create the order themselves for existing customers that have either messaged the hub or completed a previous order.

Upon creating the order the customer would be notified and have the opportunity to review.

This would solve a lot of problems regarding mismatched scale and confusion with STL files.

This is a rather complex feature to add. For now the best way would be setting up an account for your customer, since we use one-time-login links they would be able to log in with the email notification.

                                • make it possible to choose the material and color per item

If I order x copies of an item to print, most of the time I want them in different colors. Sometimes even in different material.
Because of startup costs, and to easily do it one order, it would be very nice to choose per item/model.

                                  Kind regards, Bob

I am promoting badged items on social media, and I have had postal orders. I know that the general ethos is local printing, but people don't always have someone local to them who can provide what they need (More often than not I find)
So given that I support postal orders, I would like to promote the badged items, but also encourage them to come to me, but there is no easy way to do that. I can send them to either of the following urls, but neither provides and easy path to the other -if that makes sense.

                                    • Modify pricing resolution structure

The cost of printing is very much determined by machine time. Machine time is largely controlled by layer thickness. Could you set up a way to capture that in the pricing instead of requiring back and forth between printer and customer. In other words for each machine allow customer to select layer thickness and have a different price for each cc based on layer thickness. A part printed at .025mm takes about 4 times as long to print as one at 0.1mm. Also customers should be able to specify fill factor desired. This would affect pricing based on volume calculation.

We’re aware of this alternative pricing algorithm however its fairly complex to implement and therefore we’ve not yet started on it. We’ll come around to it and make it better in the future.

                                      • A way to order a second batch without going back through 123D would be great. I suggest a reorder button.

Once my friends have a chance to see the little things I printed, some of them are likely to want their own. It would save a lot of hassle if I could just click a reorder button for another batch.
